An empty road surrounded by tall grass and trees

This bend has seen numerous accidents over the years and another one in December 2024 led to some comments on the Siddington FB page. Councillors have enquired via TRACE on the adequacy of the warning signage and what steps could be taken to improve safety. The response from Highways is as follows;

“The bends along this section of road are appropriately signed in their immediate vicinity. Collision data from the past five years shows that one third of injury collisions involved alcohol or drugs, one third resulted from driver error in collisions with the goods vehicle in front, and the remaining third involved single‑vehicle loss‑of‑control incidents while travelling southbound. The predominant contributing factor appears to be inappropriate speed and this issue is expected to be addressed once the police progress with their proposal for average‑speed cameras along the A34 between the A537 and Pexhill Road, which includes the double bend. This proposed route is with the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC)’s Office. I would think around April (new financial year) they will know of their programme”.
